A friend of mine that attended today’s Dainichi Koi Farm Auction 2013, told me that Dainichi’s Most Expensive Koi went to No. 102. This is far lesser than the World Record Price for Most Expensive Auction Koi, only set recently at the Sakai Fish Farm Koi Auction 2013, for a beautiful Sakai Nisai Sanke, at an astronomical price of 21,000,000 Japanese Yen (equivalent to about Singapore Dollars $270,000 or Malaysian Ringgit RM685,000).

This Dainichi Showa was one of Marugen Koi Farm’s opinion top Dainichi auction koi picks before the actual auction day. She has a lovely kuchi-sumi spot (black spot at the tip of her mouth), and large red beni wrapping on her huge body, with evenly placed white shiro and black sumi placements. A young Nisai already at 55cm, she is an offspring of Butta Junior, and has a great future ahead of her.

Will she become a future Grand Champion? Only time will tell!

Every koi hobbyists are now looking at the upcoming Dainichi Koi Auction 2013 (dated 07 Oct 2013), to see if Dainichi will claim the Most Expensive Auction Koi, only recently set by Sakai Fish Farm Auction 2013, for a beautiful Sakai Nisai Sanke, for an astronomical price of 21,000,000 Japanese Yen (equivalent to about Singapore Dollars $270,000 or Malaysian Ringgit RM685,000). Click here to see the Most Expensive Auction Koi Fish.

Here at Marugen Koi Farm, we decided to join in the fun by picking a few of our favourite Dainichi Kois, that will be undergoing the auction hammer tomorrow. So here goes!

Dainichi Koi Auction No. 001
This Yonsai (4 years of age) Dainichi showa is a size 68cm beauty. She has a lovely head pattern; thick black sumi striking through a patch of blood red Beni on her forehead, accompanied by a mix of thick black Sumi & light & blurred Boke Sumi, and balanced by patches of blood red Beni pattern, and not forgetting the snow white Shiro on her shoulder. She is an offspring of Kokugyo, arguably Dainichi Koi Farm’s most famous & fruitful female oyagoi. Many of Kokugyo’s offsprings were former Grand Champions, and Champions of other sizes. Will this showa No. 001 become a future Champion, like many of her successful half-siblings? Most importantly, will she break the world record for Most Expensive Auction Koi, only recently set by a Sakai Sanke at the Sakai Fish Farm koi auction 2013?

Dainichi Koi Auction No. 061
This Dainichi showa has a simple yet pleasing 3 steps kohaku pattern, with well placed sumi spots that will easily make this showa look like a Sanke if not for the sumi striking through the right side of her forehead. An offspring of Gachako, another popular female Oyagoi of Dainichi Koi Farm, this showa at size 56cm, is only young as a Nisai (2 years of age), and has time ahead of her to develop further.

This Nisai Dainichi showa has blurred and light sumi with some thick black sumi spots, and finished with blood red beni patterns, this Boke Showa is not regarded as a traditionally prize-winning koi, but she does look charming. Another offspring of Gachako, she is sized at 49cm, slightly smaller built than her sister No. 061.

This Dainichi showa has a nice coat of blood red beni pattern, snow white shiro, and well-balanced by patches of thick black sumi on the left side of her body. She also has a lovely mini kuchi-sumi spot at the tip of her mouth, which is rather appealing. A Nisai @ 52cm, she is still very young, and far from finished. A lot will be expected from her as more under-lying black sumi appears from under her skin. A beautiful kindai showa, she is probably one of our favourite in the pool of many beautiful Dainichi showas on auction.

A Nisai @ 56cm, she is an offspring of Gachako, another sister of No. 061 and No. 217. She has a lovely red beni patch on her right eye, and very tiny sumi spots at the front of her forehead, though not a usual pattern for a Nisai showa, she does stands out in her own way.

Will any of these Marugen Koi Farm‘s top picks break the World Record Koi Auction price, set recently by a Sakai Sanke at the recent Sakai Fish Farm Koi Auction 2013? We will know very soon.

And will any of the above Dainichi showas become Grand Champions, like some of their predecessors? Only time will tell!

Marugen Koi Farm’s Baby Koi Fries @ about 1 week old

Tags

, , ,

Marugen Koi Farm is pleased to post an update on our baby koi fries, that have survived through their most vulnerable period since being released into the mud pond, where baby fish-fries eating predators such as dragonfly nymphs, water beetles, water spiders and other carniverous water insects are found naturally. That is not to say that many unfortunate baby koi fries have lost their lives to these merciless predators, some under our own helpless eyes, which needless to say was very painful to watch.

Now at about 1 week old, the baby koi fries are bigger, healthier and strong enough to ward off majority of the predators. But danger is still lurking, especially with the bigger predators such as the dragonfly nymphs and the water spiders, and Marugen Koi Farm is keeping its fingers cross that most of these baby koi fries will be able to last through at least another week of danger zone, before the same baby koi fries are big enough to switch “predator-prey” roles, and now become the predators, feeding on their former predators that have previously preyed on their innocent and sacrificial siblings!

If you look closely into the video clips, you will notice that some of the baby koi fries carry some black sumi markings, which means they can grow up to become either Taisho Sanke, Aka Bekko or Shiro Bekko. This is expected, as while the female parent fish is a Kohaku, the male parent fishes are made up of Taisho Sankes and Kohakus. Hence, the rest of baby koi fries are expected to develop into Kohaku and Aka Muji (or Benigoi).

These baby koi fries are offsprings of our new female parent fish, “M Tanchozuru“.

“M Tanchozuru” is a beautiful and snow white Tancho Kohaku, bred by the world renowned Japanese Koi breeding farm, Sakai Fish Farm, which happens to be the new World Record Koi Farm holder for the Most Expensive Auction Koi Fish, for a Sakai Sanke in the recent Sakai Fish Farm Koi Auction 2013.

New World Record Koi Auction Price Set For A Sakai Fish Farm Sanke

New World Record koi auction price set at the recent Sakai Fish Farm koi auction 2013. At an incredible price of 21,000,000 Yen, it was a beautiful Taisho Sanke, an offspring of Sakai Female Parent Koi (Oyagoi), “Shining Rose”.

For those losing count, 21,000,000 Yen is equivalent to about Singapore Dollars $270,000 or Malaysian Ringgit RM685,000. With this significant cash, one can easily purchase a classy fully-furnished condominium in the heart of Kuala Lumpur City, Malaysia, or even a small & cosy HDB apartment flat in land scarce Singapore!! =)

Here is the picture of the World Record winning Sanke:

Marugen Koi Farm’s Baby Koi Fries Hatched & Released into Mud Pond @ Day 2

Marugen Koi Farm is pleased to post an update on our baby koi fries on the 2nd day of hatching. The baby koi fries are offsprings of “M Tanchozuru“, a beautiful and snow white Tancho Kohaku, bred by the world renowned Japanese Koi breeding farm, Sakai Fish Farm. High hopes will be expected from these baby koi fries. Click here to see “M Tanchozuru”, Marugen Koi Farm’s new female oyagoi, along with the other male parent koi fishes.

Here is a video of M Tanchozuru’s baby koi fries, taken in the spawning net, before they were released into the natural mud pond.

To ensure that the baby koi fries grow and develop well, Marugen Koi Farm feels that the natural habitat is the best bet, where ample food and natural nutrients and minerals are available. Hence, plans had been made for the baby koi fries to be released into the mud pond on the second day of hatching. However, transferring newly hatched baby koi fries from the breeding net into the mud pond is a very risky affair, as the baby kois are very fragile. It is like throwing a small little fish into the big Ocean. To add on, predators of baby koi fries, such as prawns, dragonfly nymphs, water spiders, water beetles and other carnivorous water insects are also co-existing naturally in the mud pond. During this critical time in the mud pond, life and death of the baby koi fries very much dependant on their will and intelligence to survive the most dangerous & ordeal period of their life, at least for the next 2 weeks. It is during this initial period that the baby koi fries will eat as much as possible, to grow as quickly as possible, so that they will outgrow, and no longer become preys of the predators, but themselves become the predator of their former predators (ie. the water insects).

Here is a video of M Tanchozuru’s baby koi fries, after they have been released into the wild, the natural mud pond.

Now, these baby koi fries will have to fend for themselves, at least for the next 2 weeks. After that, new set of predators may come in, the free-flying birds feeding over the small koi fishes. But let that worry come later, because now, the breeders at Marugen Koi Farm sincerely hope most of M Tanchozuru’s baby koi fries will survive the most difficult period of their growing stage, the initial 2 weeks!
